Graveyard for cars – check it out!

This odd place I had on my wish & dream list for years to go and visit – The old car graveyard in Kyrkö mosse outside of the small town Ryd in Smålands county, Sweden. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

It sure is an odd place. And if you’re like me and love to take photos of old things with lots of patina added to the photos then you will love this place. It is hard not to take too many photos. The whole time. I promise.

Back in the days it was a common way to get rid of a car just to drive off and leave it in the countryside if you didn’t want it anymore. Easy peasy. Then go and buy a new one.

This place also have other things left behind such as bikes, mopeds, tires, stoves and more to be found when walking around. People just stopped by, got rid of things and then drove off.

And then there were people like the man called Åke på Myren that lived here and first started another business 1935 in peat to break and sell off to have in the stables. He started the car business after the war in1950s that now is the graveyard for cars to visit for you and me as a tourist site. Åke bought old wrecks to tear down and sell parts of them to people looking for spare parts.

He bought his last car back in 1974 and he moved into a home for elder people in 1992 after living in his old house at the car junkyard all the years.

The place is a mix of abounded things, junk cars and cars Åke bought for pieces standing in the woods just getting aged and slowly becomes a part of nature….

Several discussions took place over the years since he moved from the junkyard until the town of Ryd decided to make it into the tourist place it is today as a view over lost times in the history of cars and car junkyards.

It is a very nice place to stop by on your summer vacay for a while and view all the beauty of old wrecked cars. There is a charm in this place together with an odd feeling that needs to be experienced at site.

How to get here

You look for the road 119 that passes right outside the graveyard. Use Bilkyrkogården Kyrkö mosse as an address to find the route by Google maps easily from your starting point.

You’ll have lots of nice roads to drive in the area to get there and then to continue the travel in either direction you choose for your motorcycle vacation.

Why not make a coffee and sandwiches to bring with you when you go here to enter the world of car wrecks for an hour or two. Before you jump on your motorcycle and get on the roads again. To discover all the rest in this area.
